Brief Information About Aberdeen
Aberdeen is a city in Monroe County in the state of Mississippi. It is the county seat of Monroe County, and its population at the 2000 census was 6,415.
In the nineteenth century, Aberdeen was a bustling port with a well developed cotton trading center. Even now, the city retains the histroric architecture, which is an important draw for tourists. More than 200 structures here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Just outside the city is the Aberdeen Lock and Dam, which forms Aberdeen Lake, a popular recreational area.
The U.S. Highway 45 and the Mississippi Highways 25 and 145 pass through the city.
The population has a majority of African Americans. A significant percentage of the population comrpises White Americans.
