With a total area of about approximately 19 miles, Akutan is a city in the East Borough of Alaska. Commercial fish processing is one of the important areas of economic activity, though most of the locals are seasonally employed. One of the largest employers in this field is Trident Seafoods. The local means of transportation are amphibious aircraft and boats apart from a state ferry. Weekly cargo is delivered by a freighter and daily airservice is being provided from the nearest airport from Unalaska.An airport is under construction for Trident for the benefit of the local community.
