Helpful Definition for: Soccer

Soccer, or more popularly known as football, is a sport played between two teams of eleven players each with a spherical ball in Albuquerque. It is the most popular sport of the 21st century with over 250 million players from over 200 different countries playing this game. It is an outdoor game played in a rectangular field. Each team can score a point by driving the ball into the opponent’s goal post, and the team scoring the highest number of goals wins. The goalkeepers are the ones who protect the goal and try to stop the opponent team from scoring a goal while the remaining players try to score a goal.

Like every other sport, there are a few rules of the game, which were originally set up in England but have undergone significant changes over the years. One such rule or law is that players other than the goalkeeper will not handle the ball with their hands or arms, and if he does so, he would be penalized by the match referee. A referee is the person who officiates the game and his words are final and binding. A standard football match consists of two periods of 45 minutes each, with a gap of about 15 minutes in between the two halves.
