Brief Information About Allegan
Allegan is a city in the state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Allegan County, and its population at the 2000 census was 4,838. The city was legally incorporated in 1907. It is considered the gateway to the Allegan State Game Area, and is surrounded by farmland.
The largest employer is the Perrigo Company, which is the largest maker of private label over-the-counter pharmaceuticals in the world. Padgham Field is the small local airport. The city has focused on resoration and revitalization of its historic heritage in recent years, including The Second Street Bridge. Allegan has received national recognition in the form of The National Historic Preservation Award, one of fifteen such recipients in the country. The city also has theater, the oldest band of community players in the state, and an arts council.
The population has a majority of White Americans. A small percentage of the population comprises people of African American and Hispanic origins.

Former youth leader Jonathan King Meyer accused of abusing more teen boys, three testifyMeyer, 32, is accused of sexaully assaulting three boys, ages 13 and 14, in June and July of 2006 in a Macatawa neighborhood and in Laketown Township. He was charged in January with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
