Alma is a town in Allegany County, New York. It is to the southwest of the village of Wellsville. It was settled in 1833, and incorporated in 1854. It has a total area of 36.5 square miles, most of which is land. Allentown, Honeoye Creek, Pikeville, Knight Creek and Vosburg are some of the communities in Alma. The town initially flourshed due to the oil boom in the country, which brought rail trade to it. The growth languished as oil production went bust.
