Alpine is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey. It functions as a suburb of New York City. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,849. The borough had a total area of 9.232 square miles, of which, 6.411 square miles of it is land and 2.821 square miles of it (30.56%) is water.
New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Alpine as its 15th best place to live in the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey, in the year 2008. The tower and laboratory built by Edwin Howard Armstrong after RCA evicted him from the Empire State Building is located here. The portion of Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey runs the length of Alpine along the top of the New Jersey Palisades and along the Hudson River. The Alpine Boat Basin is used for picnics and boating.
