Brief Information About Amagansett
Amagansett is a census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York. It is within the town of East Hampton, which is in the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island Metro Area. It has a total area of 8.1 square miles. 6.3 square miles of the area is land, and the rest is water. The hamlet was found in late seventeenth century. The name comes from a Native American word that means "place of good water". This denoted the current Well's Beach.
Tourism and real estate are the major commercial activities here. Many houses built in eighteenth and nineteenth centuries still stand, and a number of celebrities own homes here. Places included within the CDP are Amagansett village, Beach Hampton, and the Devon Colony on Gardiner's Bay. The cost of living is extremely high here.
