Atlanta has one or more billiard and pool halls. These are places where people gather to play cue sports, comprising pool, snooker or carom billiards. They may also have other games, such as darts and foosball. Alcoholic refreshments are usually available. In the earlier decades, playing such sports in pool halls was considered to be immoral, and thus a number of restrictive rules and regulations were passed to control these establishments. However, the perception has now changed considerably. Pool and billiards are both table cue sports, but the former has a table with six pockets, while carrom billiards is played on a pocketless table. Pool halls have had a role in shaping popular culture, as it features in the novel and film The Hustler, as well as in The Color of Money.
