Brief Information About Avalon
Avalon is a borough in Cape May County, New Jersey. It is on the Seven Mile Island. Its population at the 2010 census was 1,334. This number goes up during the summer months due to a number of temporary residents. The borough is part of the Ocean City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The community is one of the most affluent communities along the Jersey Shore. Some of the most expensive real estate on the East Coast is found here. The South Jersey seashore resort has the motto "Cooler by a Mile", since it juts out into the Atlantic Ocean about a mile farther than other barrier island resorts. Washingtonian (a magazine) named Avalon the 'chicest beach' in the mid-Atlantic, "the place to see women in diamonds and designer swimwear." It has also been named as the 65th most expensive zip code in the United States by the Forbes magazine in 2007.
Tourism and related industries are the most significant contributors to the local economy.
