Brief Information About Avon

Avon is a a census-designated place(CDP) in Dare County, North Carolina. The village of Avon is located on Hatteras Island. Originally named Kinnakeet, it was renamed when a Post Office was established here in 1883. The U.S. Life-Saving Service constructed the Little Kinnakeet Life Saving Station was constructed here in 1874. It remained functional from 1915 to 1954, saving a number of lives. After being decommissioned, it is now part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Tourism, fishing and recreational activities such as birdwatching and wave riding are popular here. The cost of living here is 8.10% higher than the country average.
