Brief Information About Balsam
Balsam is a community in Jackson County, North Carolina. It is an incorporated area, with a low population density. The community is loctaed in a mountain pass that falls between the Great Balsam Mountains and the Plott Balsams. These are two of the highest ranges in the Appalachian Mountains. The town is named after the dominant tree types here. It has a total area of 3.2 square miles, all of which is land.
Tourism and recreational activities are popular here. Local points of interest include Waterrock Knob, Moonshine Creek Underground, Graveyard Fields and the Balsam Mountain Inn.
