Brief Information About Bancroft
Bancroft is a village in Cuming County, Nebraska. Its population at the 2000 census was 520.
The famous John Neihardt, who later became Nebraska's poet laureate, lived in Bancroft for twenty years. He wrote many of his works while residing in the village. His study is preserved at the John G. Neihardt State Historic Site in Bancroft.
The two major employers in Bancroft are governmental: the Village of Bancroft, and Bancroft Public Schools. Tourism is also an important activity here, due to the presence of the Neihardt Center. The population predominantly comprises White Americans.
