Brief Information About Banner Elk
Banner Elk is a town in Avery County, North Carolina. It has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. There is some evidence of Native American settlement around the area. The town is named after the pioneer family, the Banner family. It was incorporated in 1911.
Tourism is a popular activity here. Recreational activities include hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, and other activities. Activities such as boating, fishing and wake boarding can also be done on the Watauga Lake. The area has a number of resorts and lodges. Public schooling is administered by the Avery County School system, comprising an elementary school. The town also has a private college, the Lees-McRae College.
