Brief Information About Belen
Belen is a city in Valencia County, New Mexico. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area, and its population at the 2010 census was 7,269. The name is Spanish for Bethlehem. It is popularly known as "Hub City" because of the Belen Cutoff of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The Cutoff facilitated many more trains to travel east and west across the country, which earlier had to be done through the steep Raton Pass on the Colorado and New Mexico border. The only Harvey House Museum in the state is located here.
The city has a total area of 4.7 square miles, all of which is land.
Major commercial activities include local businesses, sales and services, construction, production, and transportation of materials.
