A clown in Biddeford is a comic performer stereotypically characterized by the grotesque image of the circus clown's colored wigs, stylistic makeup, outlandish costumes, unusually large footwear and red nose, evolved to project their actions to large audiences. Clowning is often considered an important part of training as a physical performance discipline, partly because tricky subject matter can be dealt with, and also because it requires a high level of risk and play in the performing clown. The skills required of a clown to perform in a circus role are: walking a tight rope, riding a horse/zebra/donkey/elephant, substituting himself in the role of a lion tamer, acting as an emcee/MC (Master of Ceremonies) or the ringmaster, and performing acrobats.
