Brent is a city in Bibb County, Alabama. The city has a total area of 8.7 square miles, all of it land. It is centrally located in the state, and can be accessed by U.S, 82, and Alabama 5, 25, and 219. The city was founded in 1898, and was named after Mr. Brent H. Armstrong, a surveyor for the railroad. It was incorporated in 1913.
The city was rocked by a category 4 tornado in 1973, which caused widespread damage as well as loss of life. The city has since then rebuilt itself, and has the motto "Proven by Tempest".
Local attractions include Brierfield Ironworks, Tannehill, Talladega National Forest, Payne Lake Recreational Area, and Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge. The city has one elementary school, and the closest middle and high schools are in Centreville. The most significant industries in the area include transportation, warehousing, construction, retail trade and public utilities. Brent's cost of living is 19.50% lower that the country average, making living here significantly cheaper. The closest hospital is Bibb Medical Center, located about 3 miles away in Centreville.
