Citronelle is a city in Mobile County, Alabama. It is part of the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. It has a total area of 24.7 square miles. 24.4 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square miles (1.01%) is water. Citronelle Dome is a giant anticline with a salt core in the eastern Mississippi Interior Salt Basin, in the southwestern part of the state. The shape and structure of the dome facilitates oil extraction and saline reservoir CO2 sequestration. The city is known as the oil capital of the state, after oil was discovered here in 1955.

Historically, this area has been a popular resort area known for its healing herbs and water, as well as the climate. Other industries include oil extraction, manufacturing, construction, healthcare and social assistance. The closest hospital is Washington County Hospital, located in Chatom. Childersburg's cost of living is 15.60% lower than the country average, making living here significantly cheaper. The Mobile County Public School System administers public education here, which comprises one elementary, one middle, and one high school.
