Ellendale is a town in Sussex County, Delaware state. As per the 2010 census, its population was 381. It is part of the Seaford, Delaware Micropolitan Statistical Area. Ellendale is called the "Gateway to Delaware's Resort Beaches" because it is the city located on U.S. Highway 113 , the resort area's western most border, and Delaware Route 16, the resort area's northern most border. The eastern border is the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean and the southern border is the state line with Maryland.
When established, the town economy was based on the railroad that ran through it.
