The 'steakhouse' refers to a restaurant that specializes in beef steaks. These are also known as 'chophouses'. Steakhouses were started in the US in the late 19th century as a development of traditional inns and bars. A steak is a cut of meat usually beef, and are typically served grilled, pan-fried, or broiled.
