Hospitals, in Miami, are the institutes where patients are provided with diagnosis, treatment, therapy & health care by specialized instruments & professionals. Hospitals also provide longer-term stays to the patients in case of prolonged treatments. These are usually funded by the health organizations, insurance companies or the public sectors as well as charitable trusts.

Professional physicians, surgeons and nurses are the major staffs in a Hospital. There are, however, various administrative and human resource positions, responsible for making such an organization function properly.

Hospitals in Miami may be broadly categorized as- general, specialized, district, teaching & clinic. A general hospital is the one to deal with many kinds of diseases & injury- especially for urgent needs. Specialized hospitals, as the name suggests, have arrangements for special medical demands, such as- trauma centers, rehabilitation centers, pediatric hospitals, centers for treating cancer, cardiac, psychiatric or orthopedic problems, etc. Teaching hospitals are generally associated with a medical school or university and essentially train medical students & nurses along with providing patient healthcare. Clinics are smaller versions of hospitals, run by government agencies or private partnerships of doctors where generally outpatient services are provided. A significant number of hospitals in Miami, these days, focus on research as well for the benefit of medical sciences.

Hospitals have a number of distinct departments for discrete functions. These may include- emergency unit, trauma center, burn unit, surgery section, cardiology unit, intensive care unit, neurology unit, oncology department, obstetrics & gynecology and neonatal, to name a few. Some hospitals have additional departments for outdoor patients, chronic treatment units like dentistry, dermatology, psychiatric cases, physical therapy, behavioral health services and sometimes common support units, like- dispensary, pathology, radiology and the non-medical departments for keeping medical records and dealing with information release, maintenance and management, dining services & security as well.
