A Retirement Community, in Orwigsburg, is a broad term that covers a variety of housing for retirees and seniors specially designed for people who no longer work or are above a certain age group. These retirement communities are planned or designed in such a way that cater to the needs of the retired and include amenities like clubhouses, swimming pools, boating, golf courses, and many more. These communities might be age restricted, in which case, it requires at least one household resident to be 55 years of age or older. There are several categorizations of retirement communities like the active communities, also known as independent living communities, active-supportive communities that are a combination of residential and healthcare facilities, and the supportive communities.

A retirement home ,on the other hand, is a housing facility that is intended for senior citizens. The house allows each person or couple in the house to have an apartment style room or suite of rooms. Some additional facilities like meals, gathering, recreation and health care are also provided within the building. The place in a retirement home can be paid on a rental basis, or bought in perpetuity. A retirement home differs from a retirement community in that it is a small building or a small complex where no common areas of socializing exist.
