Helpful Definition for: Insurance - Home
Home insurance, in Sparks, is a property insurance, which combines a number of personal insurance protections to liability insurance for accidents & covers private homes. This multiple-line insurance means that a single indivisible premium is paid for all risks.
The home insurance policy is a term-contract that remains effective for a fixed period of time. The insured person has to pay premiums to the insurer each term. If the risk of damage or destruction to the home is less, then the insurers generally charge low premium.
At present, the International Organization for Standardization has seven standard home insurance plans:
HO1 – Basic Form Homeowner Policy provides coverage against fire or lightning, windstorm or hail, vandalism or malicious mischief, theft, damage from vehicles and aircraft, explosion riot or civil commotion, glass breakage, smoke, volcanic eruption, and personal liability. Exceptions include floods, earthquakes.
HO2 – Broad Form Homeowner Policy provides coverage against all the enlisted causes of damage mentioned in HO1 as well as loss incurred due to smoke, vehicle, water or glass breakage.
HO3 – Special Form Homeowner Policy provides coverage against all risks mentioned in HO1 & HO2 except earthquake & flood.
HO4 – Renter's Insurance provides coverage against all the perils mentioned in HO2 or HO3.
HO5 - Premier Homeowner Policy, HO6 – Condominium Policy & HO8 – Older Houses Policy are the less popular plans.
