Thorne Bay is a city located in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is within Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area. The world's largest tree grapple or known as "the claw" is in Thorne Bay. The total area is 30.4 square miles at 55°40′38″N 132°33′22″W. It is elevated 128 feet above sea level. Thorne Bay took its name after former Superintendent of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, Frank Manly Thorn. It was incorporated on August 9, 1982.
