Abbeville is a city in and the county seat of Abbeville County, South Carolina. It has a total area of 5.9 square miles, all of which is land. It is named after a French town. Abbeville was established by French Hugenots in the late eighteenth century.

Manufacturing, educational services and tourism are the major commercial activities here. The Prysmian Copper Wire Tower, built in 2009, is the tallest building in the state. There are three elementary, one middle and one public high school. Abbeville Airport and Rambos Field Airport are the local airports.
