Alfred is a town in York County, Maine. It is the county seat, and a part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area. Its population at the 2000 census was 2,497.
The Massabesic Experimental Forest is located here. The Alfred Historic District has a number of historically significant buildings, 48 of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The town population predominantly comprises White Americans.
