Americus is a city in Sumter County, Georgia state. The city's population was 17,041 as per the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Sumter County, and is a part of the Americus Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to a number of well-known organizations, including Habitat for Humanity International's international headquarters, the famous Windsor Hotel (from 1892), Fuller Center for Housing international headquarters, The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving, and Glover Foods.

The largest employers in the city are Sumter County Schools, Cooper Lighting, Habitat for Humanity, Wal-Mart, Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Magnolia Manor and Georgia Southwestern State University.
