Arcola is a city of Doughlas County. The Illinois Central Railroad was the surveyer and the founder of the town. The city of Arcola has a total area of about 2.02 sq. miles. It is home to the Amish Interpretive Center of Illinois. There is also a museum of Amish Art and culture. Short tours are conducted along the Amish countryside. Apart from tourism and agriculture, the locals are also engaged in other small trades and businesses. Some notable people of the area are Jennie Gart and J. Gruelle.
