Attapulgus is a city in Decatur County, Georgia state. The city's population was 449 as per the 2010 census.
The town's name is an Indian word meaning "Dogwood"; due to the abundance of attapulgite, which makes up the clay soil prevalent throughout Southeastern USA. The mineral is named after the town.
According to the 2000 census data, 43.09% of the population comprises White Americans, 50.00% comprises African Americans, with other races making up the remainder.
