Baldwin has two distinctive identities, one is a small town located in the County of Chemung in the state of New York. The other is located in the County of Nassau in the same state. The former covers an area of 67 sq kms. The town derived its name from the earliest settlers in the area. Lumber mills happen to be one of the most common vocation of the residents of the area.
The latter is a community located in the town of Hempstead. Most of the local inhabitants are primarily involved in different service oriented activities. Some are also involved with the local government and the infrastructure facilities in and around the towns. The small hamlet is elevated from the ground by about 24 ft. This village has a total area of about 3 sq. kms. There is the local school district and a significant part of the population is engaged in it. There are many recreation facilities in and around the town and so tourism is a major economic activity. G. Carter, a noted sculptor of various monuments was a prominent resident of the town.
