Barnstable is a city, referred to as the Town of Barnstable, in the state of Massachusetts. It is also the county seat. It has the largest land and population on Cape Cod. Its population at the 2000 census was 47,821.
Hyannis, the largest village in Barnstable, is the central business district of the county. It also has the Barnstable Municipal Airport.
Tourism is a very popular activity during the summer months. There are many popular sites abound, such as the John F. Kennedy Museum and several other museums and places on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Ancient Burying Ground and Gideon Hawley House. The beaches are also well known. Barnstable is also a 2007 All-America City Award winner.
The population predominantly comrpises White Americans.
