Belle Fourche is a city in and the county seat of Butte County, South Dakota. The name means "beautiful fork" in French, and it is the geographic center for all the states of the country taken together. It was established in the mid nineteenth century, and was popular initially for the fur trade, and then cattle shipping. The city was incorporated in 1903.
