Big Rapids is a city located within the area of Big Rapids township. It also serves as the County seat of Mescota County. With a total area of about 11.5 sq. kms., the town is located at an elevated height of about 925 ft above the ground level. Most of the local population are primarily engaged in a number of economic activities related with education, shops and stores, retail and the local healthcare sectors. A number of major highways cross the region. The river of Muskegon and lake Michigan are both located near the area. A large number of tourists throng the area to experience the local natural beauty. The State University of Ferris is one of the most reputed educational institutes in the area. A major part of the local population is generally white.
