Bluefield is generally a mid-sized city located in the county of Mercer. Bluefield is said to be the core city of Bluefield Micropolitan area.  Bluefield has a total area of about 22.8 sq. kms. and it poses a humid and continental climate. It is elevated at a height of about 2612 ft. from the sea level. Coal mining is an important part of the local economic activity in the region.  There are also some notable educational institutes in the area and this helps the local inhabitants in both employment and education.
