Boykin is popularly known as 'Gee's Bend'. It is an area with the majority of American of African origin and community. It is located at a large bend of the river Alabama in the County of Wilcox. The place was named after Joseph Gee, a large land owner from the County of Halifax in the State of North Carolina. He brought with him some slaves and established a cotton plantation. Boykin became quite famous with the arrival of the Gee's Bend quilts and have earned name and fame. The place is also well connected by a ferry service.
