Bridgeport is a city in Jackson County, Alabama. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. It as a total area of 3.2 square miles. 3.1 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it (4.00%) is water.

The town was initially named Jonesville before being changed to Bridgeport in 1854. It was incorporated in 1891. Bridgeport was a major shipyard building gunboats and transports for the Union Army, during the American Civil War.

Manufacturing, retail trade and public utilities are the most important industries in the city. Bridgeport's cost of living is 19.40% lower that the country average, making living here significantly cheaper. The closest hospital is the Grandview Medical Center, located about 13 miles away in Jasper, Tennessee.
