Television advertisement or television commercial in Canadian is considered the most effective mass-market advertising format. Advertisement revenue provides a significant portion of the funding for many privately owned television networks. The vast majority consists of brief advertising spots, ranging in length from a few seconds to several minutes. Program-length ones, called infomercials, are used to promote a wide variety of goods, services and ideas. The effect upon the viewing public has been successful and pervasive.
