With a total area of about 12 sq. miles, Canon City is the most popular place of Fremont County. It is under a Home Rule Municipality and is also the County seat. The downtown area of the city is under the National Register of Historic Places. There are a number of Correctional homes in the area and a majority of the residents are engaged with it. Some places of interest are Dinosaur Depot Museum, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Colorado State Penitentiary among others. The locals are primarily engaged with tourism related industies. Some notable residents of the town includes Don Bendell, Dave Merrick, Jack Christiansen among others.
