Cherokee is a town in Colbert County, Alabama. It is part of the Florence - Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is known as "The Shoals". It has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
Public education is administered by the Colbert County School System. It comprises the Cherokee Elementary School and Cherokee High School. One of the Rosenwald Schools was located here. The town has a number of restaurants serving Southern cuisine. The town's banking needs are met by branches of regional banks. The major contributor to the local economy is the Barton Riverfront Industrial Park, which has companies such as SCA Tissue North America and National Alabama Corporation. The northern part of the town has Cherokee Nitrogen, owned by LSB Industries. Mining industries include Vulcan Materials and UCM Magnesia.
