Cottonwood is a town in Houston County, Alabama. It is part of the Dothan Metro Area. It has a total area of 5.5 square miles, and 0.36% of it is water. It was incorporated in 1903, making it the first town to be incorporated in the county.

Manufacturing, construction, retail trade and healthcare are the major economic activities here. Public schooling is provided by the Cottonwood High School, which has till twelfth grade. The closest hospital is the Southeast Alabama Medical Center, located about 8 miles away in Dotham. It also has two churches.
