Deadwood is located in the County of Lawrence in South Dakota. It also serves as the County seat. Deadwood also compromises of a historic district and is a part of the National Landmark historic district. The city is named so since a large number of deade trees were found in its gulch or valley area. Deadwood covers a total area of about 10 sq. kms., located at a height of about 4530 ft. above the sea level. Locally, the principal economic activities are generally centered around tourism. There are a large number of recreation facilities available in and around the town. Some people are also involved with the local media, which is also quite advanced with a number of radio and television stations.
