Brief Information About Elba


Elba is a city in and the county seat of Coffee County, Alabama. It is part of the Enterprise-Ozark Metro Area. The town was settled in the early 1830s, and was incorporated in 1853. Elba was made the county seat earlier, in 1852. It is located on the bank of the Pea River, which has frequently flooded the town, causing much damage. The situation improved after a levee was built, in early twentieth century. It has a total area of 15.5 square miles, of which 15.4 square miles is land, and the rest water.

Retail trade, manufacturing and transportation are major contributors to the local economy. Public schooling is administered by the Elba City Public School District. This comprises an elementary and a high school. The city has the Carl Folsom Airport and the Runkle Stagefield Ahp Heliport. The closest hospital is the Elba General Hospital, located on Drayton Street. Elba's cost of living is 15.50% lower than the country average, making living here comparatively cheaper.
