Helpful Definition for: Stereos

Stereos, in Evergreen or home audio refers to any audio electronics intended for home use. It is a sound system which typically includes a CD, tape, or recorder; has two or more speakers and produces stereo sound. Stereophonic sound is also commonly termed as stereo and refers to a type of sound reproduction in which an attempt is made to create an illusion of the sound coming from different directions. Stereophonic sound attempts to create an illusion of location for various sound sources like voices, instruments, etc. within the original recording. Stereo sound systems can be divided into two forms natural and artificial. The true or natural stereo sound is the one in which live sound is captured with a natural reverberation by suing a number of microphones. The signal is then reproduced over multiple loudspeakers to recreate the live sound. However, in the artificial stereo a single sound is reproduced over multiple loudspeakers. By combining multiple mono signals together a complete yet entirely artificial sound field can be created.

These days true stereo is mainly confined to recordings of live music, particularly classical music. Almost all pop records and movie soundtracks are of the "artificial" variety. In technical usage, true stereo means sound recording and sound reproduction that uses stereographic projection to encode the relative positions of objects and events recorded.

Lee Ann Rush   NEW YORK, NY – I stumbled upon an article in the Turlock Journal written by Dennis Wyatt which lays out a bunch of accurate analogies about the Yellow Pages, or as he calls it, today’s Yellow Page, a severally shrunken down version of what once was, an essential item in every American home, say, thirty years ago.   Some of the points that hit home, not only seemed accurate, but were also comical were:   In the early 1970s when delivery crews tossed the Yellow Pages onto your doorstep it sounded like they had thrown a brick. In many househo...

Lee Ann Rush   NEW YORK, NY – Imagine if you had the foresight, in 1996, to register the Internet domain name YellowPages.com.  That’s what a stock broker named Dane Madsen did when he found out that web addresses were able to registered by just about anyone with an idea and some cash on hand.   YellowPages.com was registered for roughly $130 and eventually sold for $100 million to the large telecom companies who run the old print phone books such as AT&T. The domain name was initially a website having nothing to do with the phone companies who had print...
