Hoonah or Xunaa is a large Tlingit village in the U.S state of Alaska. It is on the north shore of Chichagof Island within 30 miles of Juneau to the west beyond the Alaskan Inside Passage. Hoonah is solely the first-class city on the Chichagof Island and ranked 109th largest island in the world and the 5th largest island in the U.S. The Tlingit word "Xunaa" means "protected from the North Wind". Hoonah City Schools is providing educational needs of Hoonah's elementary and secondary students. There were 760 people living in the place as of the census of 2010.
