The John F. Kennedy Space Center is one of ten National Aeronautics and Space Administration field centers located in the U.S. state of Florida. It is within Merritt Island and one of the major tourist destinations in central Florida. It coordinates at 28°31′26.61″N 80°39′3.06″W. On July 1, 1962, KSC was established and then renamed the John F. Kennedy Space Center in November 1963 after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. There were about 13,100 employees in 2011. Kennedy Space Center has been NASA's main launch center of human spaceflight since 1968 of December.
