Lake Placid is a village within the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, near the center of the town of North Elba, approximately 50 miles southwest of Plattsburgh, New York, United States. In the early 19th century, the community was founded during the development of an iron ore mining operation. Lake Placid hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980 respectively.
