Shelby is an unincorporated place located in Alabama. It lies in Shelby County close to  Lay Lake and Waxahatchee Creek. Shelby coordinates at 33°06′37″N 86°35′03″W with elevation of 495 feet. Originally named as Shelby Iron Works was shortened to Shelby in 1890. It took 120 years for community to become again a census-designated place in 2010. Shelby's historical landmarks The Brick House and the Old Shelby Hotel are registered on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. There were 1,044 people living in Shelby at the 2010 census.
