The city of St. Michael is located in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is part of the Nome Census Area at the southeastern tip of the Norton Sound. St. Michael has a total area of 28.1 square miles at 63°28′16″N 162°3′11″W. It is elevated 26 feet above sea level. The Russian-American Company founded the Redoubt St. Michael in 1833 and was incorporated on July 15, 1969. The Bering Strait School District provides education of St. Michael. Established in 1897, a U.S. military post the Fort St. Michaels served as a major gateway to the Alaskan interior via the Yukon River Delta.
