Controlled by the United States Air Force, built in 1942 and in use till today, Travis Air Force Base is located 5 kms east of Fairfield in the Solano County of California. The base is named after Brigadier General Robert F.Travis who died in a crash while transporting a nuclear weapon.
Situated in the San Francisco Bay Area and known as "Gateway to the Pacific", Travis AFB handles a greater number of cargo and passenger traffic through its airport than any other military base in the US. It is also the largest employer in the City and County.
Aerospace industry and veteran and military organizations are a couple of major employment-providing industries in the area.
