Vance is a town located both in Tuscaloosa and Bibb counties in Alabama. It is included in the Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area and Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The total area of Vance is approximately 10.2 square miles at 33°9′52″N 87°13′54″W. It is elevated by 509 feet above sea level. Originally called Trion which became a trading post on the Old Huntsville Road, the town was first settled in 1830 by David M. Lindley. Then renamed to Smallwood by sawmill owner Charles Smallwood in 1872 before it was called Vance by Dr. William Vance in 1879. As of 2010 census, Vance had a total population of 1,529 and a population density of 147.49/sq mi. Estimated per capita income in 2015 was $29,326. Vance Zip code is 35490.
